Before Putting the Ring on the Finger, Know the Wedding Traditions
We are a community pledged to know the different cultures our world has to offer. And to marry someone who has different cultures and traditions is very common nowadays. So before saying, “I do”, know the basics first.
In some states and countries, there are indeed several traditions that you have to comply with before embarking on the long journey to the altar.
Dress of the Bride
Usually, the brides wedding dress is white. That is what a lady, nowadays, who wants to get married desires to wear. Wearing a white dress can be traced backed to the time of Queen Victoria, in the Victorian times. She trashed their old tradition of wearing a silver wedding gown in exchange of a white one. Before the best white gowns are worn instead of the revised wedding dress. White is also associated with a brides virginity and purity.
Bouquets
It had become a tradition and a symbol of courting that a man had to give his woman flowers. In the medieval times, when a knight was going to marry, he wore the colors of his lady which was a significant sign for his adornment. Adoring the lady with flowers promotes good health and luck for the couple.
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
This is a saying that had come from Victorian times. Something old represents the past life of the bride including her family. Something new means the couples life and future. Something borrowed represents imparting happiness that is similar with the married. Something blue means constancy and fidelity.
Wedding Cake
Romans introduced this chain. Sharing the first cut piece of cake together is an act that represents an undying bond. The cake, on the other hand, has its symbols. Wheat that was used for baking is considered to bring fertility and the sweetness was thought to bring a twinge of romance and a sweet relationship.
Third Finger Ring
There are two origins where this was known: Egypt and Europe. The belief of the Egyptians is that the third finger contains a vein that runs directly to the heart. And if you put the ring on that finger, it will connect the ring to the heart that will remind every couple of their vows and love for each other.
Kiss
The conclusion. A kiss after the ceremony represents a couples union of souls. In old times, the Romans believed that the kiss is a kind of seal that couples make to represent agreement to be joined in a commitment that can last.
